A Mountain of Anime Updates Landed Over the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays provide a wealth of pastimes far superior than checking the updates: opening presents, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and harnessing meditation skills to avoid snapping at loved ones. I hope you were able to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting developments came out during the holidays, and if you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)
Truly the most shocking piece of news, the notorious controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop the series' continuation. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which might be a hopeful indicator. Yet, the main art for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, by now, they must be mocking the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series showed it maintained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now fans are ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been airing for a while, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio famous for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two
Immediately following the conclusion of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has yet to be revealed.
