Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
